Privacy Policy

FreeFish (“FreeFish”, “we”, “us”) runs freefishapp.com, a free fishing app with maps, depth charts, weather, a catch log, a community and an AI fishing guide. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information you give us

• Account: your email address and password are handled by our sign-in provider, Supabase. We never see your password. We store your display name, bio, fishing preferences and profile photos.
• Your area: an approximate default area (for example a town or ZIP) so we can show local weather and nearby waters. If you tap “Use my location”, your device location is used to find that approximate area; we do not track your location in the background.
• Catch log and saved places: catches and saved waters or map points you choose to record. These are private unless you choose to share a catch.
• Community: posts, replies, likes, follows, photos and reports you submit. Posts and replies are visible to other users.
• FreeFish AI: the questions you ask, your recent conversation, and context such as your area, target species, fishing style and the water you have open. These are sent to generate an answer and are not saved on our servers.

Information collected automatically

• Technical logs: our host, Cloudflare, processes your IP address, browser type and the pages you request to deliver and secure the site.
• AI usage limits: to enforce daily question limits we store a daily count linked to your account, or, if you are not signed in, to a one-way scrambled version of your IP address that changes every day.
• Device storage: we use your browser’s local storage for settings such as whether the depth layer is on.
• Advertising cookies: see “Advertising” below.

How we use information

• To run your account and show your profile, catch log, saved places and posts.
• To show local weather, nearby waters, fishing suggestions and AI answers that fit your area.
• To keep the community safe, including reviewing reports and enforcing our Terms.
• To show ads that help keep FreeFish free.
• To fix problems, prevent abuse and keep the service secure.

We do not sell your email address, catch log or saved places.

Advertising

FreeFish shows ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to FreeFish and/or other sites on the Internet.

• You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google’s My Ad Center, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
• Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
• Visitors in regions that require it (such as the EEA, the UK and some U.S. states) are asked for consent or offered an opt-out through Google’s consent message.

Services we use

• Cloudflare: hosting, database, file storage, caching and the AI model that answers FreeFish AI questions.
• Supabase: accounts, sign-in and account emails.
• Google AdSense: advertising.
• National Weather Service: forecasts (we send an approximate location).
• Map and data sources: to draw maps and depth charts, your browser loads data directly from OpenFreeMap, OpenStreetMap-based services, Esri, NOAA and state wildlife and natural-resource agencies. Those providers receive your IP address and the map area you are viewing, under their own privacy policies.

Your choices and rights

• Access and export: download your posts, catches and preferences from Settings → Export my fishing journal.
• Correct: edit your profile and preferences at any time.
• Delete: delete individual posts and catches in the app, or email us to delete your account and its data.
• Location: you can change or clear your default area in Settings.
• Depending on where you live (for example California or other U.S. states), you may have additional rights to know, delete, correct or opt out. Contact us and we will respond as required by law.

Children

FreeFish is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Retention and security

We keep account information while your account is active and delete it when you ask us to, except where we must keep it for legal or safety reasons. AI usage counts are kept only for a short time. We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) and limit access to stored data, but no service can guarantee perfect security.

Changes

We may update this policy. We will change the date at the top and, for significant changes, show a notice in the app.
